- Decision: Desk reject or proceed to peer review
- Associate Editor selects 2-3 independent expert reviewers
- Considers author suggestions and avoids conflicts of interest
- Ensures geographic, institutional, and gender diversity
- Monitors the Double-Blind peer review process for timeliness
- Evaluates reviewer recommendations and author's rebuttal
- Makes editorial decision (Accept / Minor Revision / Major Revision / Reject)
- Reviews final revised manuscript and author responses
- Ensures all reviewer concerns have been adequately addressed
- Makes the final acceptance decision
- Notifies author and triggers APC invoice generation
- Reviews the final typeset manuscript (proofs)
- Approves final layout, figures, and metadata for accuracy
- Authorizes the official publication release
Journal Management & Production
- System validates submission for completeness and technical requirements
- Assigns manuscript ID for tracking throughout the process
- Notifies editorial team of new submission
- Manages reviewer invitations, reminders, and thank-yous
- Anonymizes manuscripts and reviews for the double-blind process
- Collates reviewer feedback and provides technical support
- Assigns dedicated Production Editor
- Handles copyediting, language polishing, and reference checking
- Typesetting, layout design, and figure preparation
- Assigns DOI and prepares final metadata for indexing
- Generates and sends APC invoices automatically upon acceptance
- Processes payments and sends confirmations to author and production
- Manages discount/waiver applications and institutional agreements
- Publishes final article online with assigned DOI
- Distributes to indexing databases (e.g., CrossRef, Google Scholar, Scopus)
